Euro Mediterranean Scientific Biomedical Institute (ISBEM) –Brindisi, Italy & Institute of Clinical Physiology (IFC) of the National Research Council (CNR) – Lecce, Italy

The collaboration of the Euro Mediterranean Scientific Biomedical Institute and the Institute of Clinical Physiology (IFC) of the CNR (National Research Council) started in January 2000. The agreement created the foundation for the constitution of Inter-center Departments with optimal use of instrumental biomedical resources and Computerized Clinical Briefcase.

Institute of Clinical Physiology (IFC) was created 36 years ago and it has 800 employees. It is an established research center that uses a multidisciplinary approach, with a team of physicians, biologists, chemists, physicists, IT and mathematical engineers, in the basic medical research, clinical, epidemiologic and technological research. Every year the Institute generates 400 articles, and the majority of them is published in internationally recognized scientific journals. The IFC has two main location for research and clinic one in Pisa and Massa and four research centers in Milan, Lecce, Siena and Rome.The main research focus of the Institution is the study of cardiovascular diseases through a multi-organ and multi-system approach, which includes lung, metabolic, neuro-endocrin and renal pathologies. In 2003, the Institute did 3,968 hospitalizations (694 pediatrics), 900 hearth surgeries (250 pediatrics) and 850 general surgeries (150 pediatrics). Through the years the Institute has tied close relationships with the University of Pisa, the Scuola Normale Superiore and the Scuola Superiore S. Anna, providing professionals and post-doc students highly qualified education and training in the fields of research and clinical practice. In addition to the Masters of Cardiology and Cardio-Anaesthesia, IFC also offers a number of other courses and hosts congresses and seminars year-round.

About ISBEM

Image

ISBEM (Euro Mediterranean Scientific and Biomedical Institute) is a consortium joint-stock non profit company. Its promoting partners are the University of Pisa, the University of Lecce, the Local Health Center BR 1 of Brindisi, the Banca del Salento, at present Banca 121, and the PA.S.T.I.S (Science and Technology Park of the Ionico-Salentino Area). ISBEM is the channel for the Institutions involved in sanitary and biomedical research in Southern Italy and in the Mediterranean Area. Its most important activity consists in planning and the implementation of advanced research programs and their development in decentralized centers. ISBEM promotes the introduction of innovative scientific methodologies (guidelines, standards, quality methods, new diagnostic-therapeutic routes) and the latest technologies offering technical-scientific support to the local sanitary administrations. Its main goals are to increase the number of scientific projects in Southern Italy and to enforce the transfer of knowledge.

Mission

Our mission is:

·         Creating an advanced scientific pole to activate research, development and training in the biomedical and sanitary sector;

·         Facilitating the integration among adjoining systems through biomedical research (clinic, epidemiological, managerial), bringing near researchers, health workers and industrialists, simply by experimenting and scientifically validating innovations;

·         Increasing the rate of scientific projects in Southern Italy and strengthening the transfer of knowledge, making lever on the acquired competences and on the external availabilities that can be activated;

·         Direct management of advanced clinical units;

·         Transfer of the scientific approach into the diagnostic and therapeutic process;

·         Overall patient-centered approach both in research and practice;

·         A continuous update of both knowledge and technology applied to diagnosis and patient care;

·         A continuous share and transfer of results to the public health system;

·         A large scale collaboration with industry operating in the health field, with particular attention toward the growth of national enterprise.

Aims

The members of our groups are workforce either of ISBEM or IFC of CNR. Through the creation of this group our goal is to establish a privileged channel with PrometeoNetwork’s members, with the promotion of:

·         Scientific collaborations with ISBEM – IFC of CRN at an international level;

·         A direct connection through announcement of activities, job offers and scientific studies;

·         A productive scientific communication;

·        Our participation to forum and activities promoted by PrometeoNetwork and its channels.
