Vienna Life Sciences Online
Mission
The Mission of
this group is to offer the possibility to researchers and medical doctors, who
are working or have worked for a period of at least 1 year in Vienna, to
interact with each other.
This group,
indeed, includes scientists from different institutions, Universities and
privately founded institutes, who are working in different areas of Life
Sciences, from basic research to applied medicine. Therefore, it offers the
chance to share tools and expertises among the members.
Aims
Most of the people who are starting this group are working
or have worked at the Vienna Biocenter, one of the biggest research
institutions in Europe. It consists in three
main big Institutes: IMP (supported by the pharmaceutical company Boehringer
Ingelheim), IMBA (research organization founded as a joint
initiative of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and Boehringer
Ingelheim) and the new formed MFPL (generated by the
fusion of the University
of Vienna and the Medical
University of Vienna).
In view of the heterogeneous composition of this
research institute and the presence of strong research groups with a broad
thematic profile, we hope to facilitate the exchange of information and
encourage possible collaboration, through active discussion.
However, some of the members are working in a
research area at the hospital, in direct contact with medical doctors. This
would offer the possibility of a faster exchange of knowledge and expertise
between the medical personnel and the researchers.
Moreover, PrometeoNetwork
embraces thousands of researchers from the most prestigious public or private
Life Science institutions in Europe and USA. Therefore, this group will provide
the researchers and clinicians in Vienna the opportunity to be in contact with
colleagues from USA and from the rest of the world. This will allow a faster
exchange of knowledge, increase the chances of collaborations and facilitate
the search of positions in academy or industry, particularly in the USA.
We hope to start lively discussions of technical
problems with a view to solve them, by consulting experts in the field and
eventually facilitating the exchange of tools, such as antibodies or protocols,
among members of this group and of the others in PrometeoNetwork.
We are,
finally, willing to provide useful information and advice for members
interested in working in Vienna.
