Nanomedicine and Nanobiotechnology Online  

is a community of scientists involved in the emerging field of Nanotechnology applied to the Life-Sciences. The members of this community are linked to the other international groups of the expanding PrometeoNetwork family.   

Mission

Even more than other disciplines, the development of Nanotechnology needs Interconnection and Networking. This is therefore the mission of this community. 

Why? In order to define Nanotechnology, the journal “Nature Nanotechnology” in its first pubblicated issue,  delegated some of the most eminent scientists involved in its different aspects to define it (Nat. Nanotech., Feature “nan´o·tech·nol´o·gy n.”,  pgg. 8-10, Issue 1, Vol. 1, October 2006).The most striking, and peculiar thing is that there is no specific discipline in science that can actually claim the total paternity of this technology.  Down there, where 1 atom makes the whole difference, the group of disciplines such as Physics, Engineering, Mathematics and its Computational Methods are necessary as much as the most raffinate Chemistry. As it is also reknown that the basis of life is within the finely tuned reactions between molecules at the nanoscale and even lower level, there comes, as a natural consequence, the involvement of Molecular Biology and all that follows such as Medicine, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics and so on.

Promising applications of Nanotechnology that are directly related to the improvement of medical, and eventually veterinary, practice and medical technologies are decribed in the newborn field called “Nanomedicine”. The field of applications directed towards the conception and development of new tools for biomedical research and biotechnology is defined as “Nanobiotechnology”.

Our Goals

Offer a tool for interaction and networking, allowing exchange in order to spark synergies that give birth to initiatives and activities for the development of Nanomedicine and Nanobiotechnology. Therefore:

·         boost Interdisciplinary relationships

·         a tool for the Scientific Community for the development of research collaborations

·         a tool for employment opportunities in both Academia and Industry

·         a tool for education and knowledge for who would like to be involved.
