Cataldo Doria, MD, PhD, FACS – Surgeon of the Year
The Delaware Valley Chapter of the American Liver Foundation (ALF) on October 4th, 2008 named one of our members, Dr. Cataldo Doria, “Transplant Surgeon of the Year” for his outstanding service to the medical community and to patients with liver disease. Cataldo Doria, MD, PhD is the Director of the Division of Transplantation at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.
Dr. Doria is a multi-organ transplant surgeon with extensive expertise in liver, kidney – live donor as well as cadaveric, and small bowel transplantation. Dr. Doria clinical interest includes, also, hepato-bilio-pancreatic surgery for treatment of cancer of the liver, bile duct and pancreas. Dr. Doria is a world renowned researcher in the field of artificial liver treatment for fulminant hepatic failure. Dr. Doria newest basic science laboratory is focusing in discovering molecular biology pathways to inhibit liver cancer growth.
The American Liver Foundation was founded in 1976 by the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease (AASLD) to increase the awareness among both the general public and the medical community to the rising incidence of liver disease. In 1992, the ALF started to honor leaders in the medical industry for their significant contributions to the fields of liver disease and transplantation. Since then more than 68 outstanding individuals have been recognized by their peers, among them: Governor Robert E. Casey and Nobel Laureate Baruch S. Blumberg.
